Produce Pack Info

Weekly Deliveries of Freshness from Our Farm to You

The Produce Pack brings the very best of our farm’s harvest to you.  Every week from May to November, we meet you, our customers at pick up locations in Bedford, Flemming Park, and downtown Halifax.  Bins of produce are laid out for you to choose from.  Local fruit and real pasture-range eggs are also included.

Signing up is a choice to base your diet on healthy and delicious garden-fresh produce.  A chance to eat like someone who grows their own food.  We harvest perishable crops like greens, peas, and beans the same day we deliver them.  To ensure you have lots of variety every week, we plant over forty different kinds of vegetables, herbs, and flowers.  Most of the vegetables and herbs we offer are familiar favorites like tomatoes, beans, carrots, basil, and lettuce. We also grow unusual crops like arugula, ginger root, and garlic.  We also offer the popular “Swap Box” where you can leave items you don’t want, in exchange for items you do want.

The fruit comes from local farms near us.  We buy chemical free fruit whenever possible, if we must buy low-spray, we’ll let you know.  The goal is to include some fruit with every delivery and have extra available for baking and preserving by special order.  Strawberries, cherries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, plums, apples, and pears are expected to be included this year.

Abundant Acres is located in the Avon River Valley in Centre Burlington, Hants County.  We are one hour from Halifax.  As produce pack customers, you are invited to visit our farm on Open Farm Saturdays once a month.  On the farm we have a Native Tree Nursery, gardens, greenhouses, chickens, sheep, cattle, and walking trails.  You are welcome to enjoy the farm and see how your food is grown.

The Produce Packs include vegetables, fruit, and eggs.  They come in two sizes.  The larger size is $45 per week.  This  should be enough for a family to eat lots of vegetables every meal of the week.  A typical pack in August might have the following items:  2 lbs tomatoes;  2 lbs green beans;  3 large bunches spinach;  1 head of lettuce;  large bunch of basil;  1 bunch parsley;  1 bunch carrots;  1 large bunch chard;  2 pints sun gold cherry tomatoes;  2 heads garlic.garlictomato

The medium size is $35 per week.  This size is best for singles and couples.

We are convinced that anyone can enjoy a $35 pack in a week, but if you are not committed to home cooked meals, the Produce Pack may not be right for you.

Eating and cooking healthy food can be a challenge, especially at the beginning.  To help you succeed, we go the extra mile to ensure high quality and a wide selection of produce in the packs.  We have several greenhouses for extra-early harvests of summertime favourites like tomatoes, beans, and basil.  We also have a very good irrigation system to ensure good harvests even if we don’t have enough rain.sackville

What if I go away for a week?  If you will be gone for a week or two during the season, just let us know the week before and we will take your name off the list and you won’t have to pay.  Or you can arrange for a friend to pick it up, or for us to donate your pack to a local food bank.

Where are the pick-up locations?  We have two pick-up locations.  One is on Thursdays from 4-6 pm at Victoria Park in downtown Halifax.  The other is on Tuesdays on First Ave in Bedford and Redwood Avenue in the Flemming Park area.jenreynoldsmelon
